What is a sugar cube body scrub?
A sugar cube body scrub is a body scrub in the shape of an ice cube and made with exfoliating ingredients like sugar or salt and a combination of oils, butters and/or soap.
I love the versatility and mobility of a sugar cube scrub. They are non-messy, non-greasy and very transportable. You can take them anywhere without worrying about a leak or spill. The following recipe uses soap as a base instead of a solid butter like cocoa butter or shea butter for ease of rinse off. The addition of soap also makes it a dual purpose product, allowing you to both cleanse and exfoliate at the same time. How’s that for multitasking?
Lavender Orange Sugar Cube Body Scrub Recipe
This recipe will make 6 single use body scrubs.
Ingredients:
¼ cup organic sweet almond oil
½ cup shredded Soap or Melt and Pour Soap
¾ cup organic sugar
10 drops orange essential oil (optional)
10 drops lavender essential oil (optional)
Tools:
Double boiler or crock pot
Silicon Ice Cube Tray
Instructions:
Melt soap and almond oil in a double boiler until smooth. Quickly add in sugar and mix well. The consistency will look like wet sand. Working quickly, pat mixture into silicon ice cube tray and press/pat down well. Let sugar cubes set for 4-6 hours. Alternately, you can also put ice cube tray in freezer and let set for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, pop cubes out of silicon tray and place on a rack or wax paper and let rest overnight. Once completely set, store your sugar cube body scrubs in an airtight container for future use.
To Use:
Grab one of your sugar cube scrubs and get in the bath or shower. Wet cube thoroughly to activate soap and rub directly on body in a circular motion to exfoliate, concentrating on especially rough or bumpy areas of skin. Rinse well with warm water. Follow up with a rich moisturizer.
