There’s nothing like a good ol’ face scrub, but finding a good one sometimes can be hard. It’s challenging, to say the least, to find just the right mix of scrub ingredients. One that is not overly abrasive or one that is so soft you can barely feel the exfoliation. This is where creativity and the love of crafting meet. I often switch up my scrub depending on what I am looking for (different scent, different exfoliant, etc.), but I always come back to this gentle DIY face scrub that is soothing and effective.

Gentle Kelp & Oat Face Scrub Recipe

This gentle DIY face scrub recipe doubles as a face mask.  It’s the perfect blend of scrub and skin loving ingredients that will leave your skin velvety smooth. This recipe makes enough for three scrubs/masks.

2 drops lavender essential oil (optional)

2 drops ylang ylang essential oil (optional)

To use:

Combine 1 Tbsp of mixture with 1 Tbsp of water, milk or cream and stir to combine. I like the “raw” smell of the oats and cornmeal, however, if desired add 3-4 drops of essential oil at this point and allow to sit for one minute to thicken. If too thick, add a few drops of liquid at a time to thin out. If too thin, sprinkle in a bit more powdered oatmeal.

Apply to face then gently rub in a circular motion for 1-2 minutes. Rinse well then remove any remaining residue with toner or witch hazel. Finish off with facial serum and/or moisturizer. To use as a mask, after face massage, leave on for 15-minutes. Repeat rinsing process as stated above.
